Engaging Students in Wrestling with Authentic Issues
and Challenges from the Community

Measuring Up to the Challenge

Module One - What is Problem-Based Learning?

One good way to define Problem-Based Learning units is to look at some and extract the key traits and elements that distinguish them.

You will explore units listed below and develop a list of traits that captures the essence of the approach to unit design.

You probably noticed that this approach to unit design allows for some variance. Certain elements appear consistently, while others seem to be more or less optional.

Which of the following standards for a challenging research project are met by PBL units?

Next module. Please do not proceed until asked to do so by the workshop leader.
