Poetry by Jamie McKenzie

Butt

Half way down
The block
Dragging his two plastic bags
The afternoon's collection
Mostly bottles
And cans
Bouncing along concrete
He spied the butt
Still lit
Half smoked
Waiting for him
Dry
In the gutter
And stooping
Down
All the way
He smiled
Straightened
Took a drag
Or two
Then moved on
The next can
Beckoning
From the corner
