As Justice wept

It was the darkest hour
The darkest day
And the darkest night
As Justice wept
Chained and gagged as she was
Locked away in the cellar
Along with her sister Truth
Bound together
Abducted
And stuffed in a dank corner
Somewhere down in the basement
While upstairs
Lies and crimes were papered over
Covered up
Whitewashed
And denied
Oaths were broken
And the Republic shuddered
As no witnesses were called
Minds were closed
And charade became the game of the day

It was as trials go
A masquerade
A travesty
In fact
A shameless mockery
As Justice wept
And Truth moaned
Shackled
Silenced
Struggling in vain
To get free
