“Only in the Panhandle"

Note: This poem was inspired by President Trump's
comment at one of his rallies when he replied
to a fan who suggested shooting immigrants. Shortly thereafter on August 3, 2019, a mass shooting
occurred at a Walmart store in El Paso, Texas.
A gunman shot and killed 22 people and injured 24 others.

He has blood on his hands
On his hands
On his hands
The blood of innocents
This man, woman and childslaughter
This racial carnage
His to own

He has sown the seeds of hate
Fanned the flames
And incited the mob

He hath loosed the hateful lightning
with his terrible racist words
And the mob is marching on
And on
And on
Those good white folks with pointed hats
White sheets
Masks
And assault weapons with high-capacity magazines

He has sounded forth the trumpet
That shall never call retreat
Arming the fanatics
Cheering them on
And giving them cause
